Department/Classes Taught: Math Grades 5-8

Bio: This is my sixteenth year teaching math at Ashar. My undergraduate degree from CCNY is in mathematics and my graduate degree, also from CCNY,is in math education. I began my teaching career teaching math in the New York City Public School System.

My affiliation with Ashar began when my children, who are all Ashar alumni, started preschool.

Math skills are important for everyday life, as well as success in school. My objective is to build a solid foundation in math skills as this opens the door to quality institutes of higher education as well as many career opportunities.

Math homework is an integral part of the learning process Assignments are intended to help reinforce the topics covered in class that day or to review important skills.

Please encourage your child by having a positive attitude towards math and calling attention to the many ways that math is used in everyday life.

Welcome to Mrs. Goldfarb's Math Class

The sixth grade has been learning how to add and subtract with mixed numerals. We learned that the fractions must be expressed with the same denominator to be able to add and subtract.. We will be multiplying and dividing with fractions and mixed numerals.

The seventh grade has been busy learning to solve linear equations. They are also checking the solutions to make sure that they did the work correctly. We will be using our knowledge of equations to solve verbal problems.

The eighth grade has been learning about graphing in the coordinate plane. They are learning that the graph of a linear equation is a straight line. We are also learning about the slope of a line and how this can help us graph a line. We will also be solving a system of equations using the graphing method.
