Rabbi Mayer Beller
Phone: 845-357-1515 Ext. 7 Bio: Rabbi Mayer Beller, our Menahel, has over twenty five years of teaching and administrative experience as a highly successful educator and administrator, professionally trained to deal with the educational, social and emotional concerns of children. His unique skill set affords him the added ability of providing guidance and supervision for faculty, as well as developing and monitoring curricula in both Limudei Kodesh and General Studies. Rabbi Beller distinguishes himself through his keen understanding and sensitivity towards our institution, ASHAR, in the Monsey community. He possesses the ability to cater to a broad spectrum of Orthodox Jews, wherein everyone feels welcome and has their individual needs addressed. A long time resident of Monsey, Rabbi Beller has held the position of principal in three Yeshivot, including the Hillel academies of Passaic, New Jersey, and Fairfield Connecticut. His longest tenure has been at Yavneh Academy of Paramus, New Jersey where he rose through the ranks from Rebbi to assistant principal and ultimately to Principal of Limudei Kodesh. A graduate of Brooklyn College, Rabbi Beller earned a Bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1980. After receiving Semicha from his Rosh Yeshiva HaRav Avraham Pam Z”tl of Mesivta Torah Voda’ath in 1982, he went on to complete his Master’s of Science (MS.Ed.) degree in Education, with a concentration in School Administration, at the College of New Rochelle. He currently holds a School District Administrator’s license (SDA) and a School Business Administrator’s license (SBA). Rabbi Beller was named outstanding educator by Who’s Who in America’s Schools in 1990 and was instrumental in helping Yavneh Academy receive worldwide recognition when they were awarded the coveted Pras Yerushalayim. Rabbi Beller’s educational philosophy: “The essence of my philosophy is that, in order for students to have a desire to learn, education must be both provocative and enjoyable. Yiddishkeit and learning in general should be ‘as sweet as honey’ and if this is not the case, then we as administrators and educators must reevaluate our approach to teaching. Give a child many exciting challenges and you will see results beyond your greatest imagination. The sky is truly the limit in educating children.” There are many facets to this philosophy which have made him popular and respected over the years. Rabbi Beller is also a strong believer in accountability and communication as key components to an institution’s success. As such, he has an open door policy wherein parents, teachers, and students feel comfortable discussing with him any and all issues which need attention.

Dear Parents, On behalf of the entire ASHAR family, I take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in our Yeshiva. Fortunately, we reside in a community that presents several options for our children, and selecting a Yeshiva is not an easy task. At the new ASHAR, great things are happening. From the Early Childhood Program, headed by Mrs. Jacqueline Borgen, through eighth grade one can sense an excitement and energy in the hallways and classrooms as we continue on the path of excellence set forth in our Yeshiva. Our most important focus is the academic success of your children in both Limudei Kodesh and General Studies, and their development into genuine B’nai Torah. To that end, proper skills and middot are paramount and work hand-in-hand. In Limudei Kodesh we put major emphasis on accuracy and fluency in Kriah, word attack skills, and spoken Ivrit. These fundamentals, beginning in our Early Childhood Program, are key components to ensuring success in Chumash, Navi, Gemara, Lashon, and Yediot Klaliot which are all foundations to Yiddishkeit and each one part and parcel of our Limudei Kodesh curriculum. From Early Childhood through eighth grade we emphasize the critical importance that Eretz Yisrael plays in our lives via chesed, tzedaka, tefila, and community programs. Our talmidim and talmidot are well-rounded in all aspects of Torah as they graduate eighth grade and proceed to Mesivta / high school. But that’s not enough. As American Jews, it is also our responsibility to prepare our students for the outside world by laying a strong foundation in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Technology that will ensure their success in high school and beyond. We take our secular studies as seriously as we do our Limudei Kodesh, and expect every talmid at ASHAR to do so as well. In accepting this responsibility, Dr. Rachel Schnur, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, ensures that we are at the cutting edge of education. As part of educating the whole child, ASHAR students participate in programs beyond just the classroom setting. They are encouraged to be involved in Chesed, and in a wide range of cultural and extra-curricular activities including an emphasis on physical education, art, and music. ASHAR offers many opportunities for children to learn new skills and improve on existing ones through our many educational trips, hockey and basketball teams, in-school programs, and creative after-school clubs run by our parent body. Focusing on the specific needs of our students, we offer resource and enrichment curricula for students on either end of the academic spectrum. Each child’s progress is continuously assessed throughout the year, so that no one “falls through the cracks”. At ASHAR we aim high, and we take pride in that goal. Because of our high standards, we are producing successful, confident, and well-rounded children who are ready to take on greater responsibilities and challenges as they progress from grade to grade. I am convinced that ASHAR’s efforts in promoting the best of both worlds are in harmony with your family’s values and aspirations. On behalf of ASHAR, I look forward to welcoming your family into our ASHAR family in the near future. Please complete the enclosed application for admission form and return it promptly with the appropriate fees. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 845-357-1515 at your convenience or email me at mbeller@ashar.org. Sincerely, Rabbi Mayer Beller
